Moments after Manny Pacquiao?s majority decision verdict over Juan Manuel Marquez last night in Las Vegas, I caught up with Showtime color commentator Al Bernstein, who was in town covering the fight for his BoxingChannel.tv website. Speaking from the MGM Grand?s media center at the post-fight press conference, Bernstein was quick to point out just how out of sorts Pacquiao was as he had trouble with Marquez for the third time.
?It was an off night for Manny Pacquiao and I thought Juan Manuel Marquez probably won by a point or two, a couple points,? Bernstein would point out.
Pacquiao was the aggressor during the fight as he pressed Marquez but he looked very sluggish and didn?t seem to fight with the same fervor as in past fights. Soon to be 33 years old and having fought nearly 17 years as a professional, one has to wonder if Pacquiao simply had an awkward night or if perhaps he is a few shades past his peak.
Bernstein is unsure and can only rationalize on what he saw with his own eyes last night.
