MANNY PACQUIAO HAS CANCELLED HIS TRIP to the United States to take part in the promotional caravan for his Jan. 21 rematch with Erik Morales of Mexico.
Pacquiao, who was scheduled to fly to the US with close associate Rex “Wakee” Salud, said he would fly to Cebu tomorrow instead to start his rigid preparation for Morales.
Salud, in an interview, also confirmed the change of plan although he refused to give out details on why the trip was aborted.
“Negative,” was Salud’s short reply when asked if he and Pacquiao are indeed leaving for the US today.
Once in Cebu, Pacquiao will discuss with Dong Secuya, the man behind the popular websites MannyPacquiao.ph and Philboxing.com, the ways and means to parry a libel suit filed by Rod Nazario, Pacquiao’s former business manager.
Nazario sued Secuya following a series of articles penned by American writer Pedro Fernandez and US-based Winchell Campos, which saw print in the two websites. They cast aspersion on Nazario’s credibility in handling Pacquiao’s career.
Pacquiao has expressed unequivocal support for Secuya, who is credited for having played a major role in improving Pacquiao’s marketability through the two well-read websites.
Secuya was arrested yesterday but immediately posted bail. He has vowed to clear his name.
