On Saturday night against Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao failed to dominate a boxing match for the first time since March of 2008 when he narrowly won by split decision. His opponent for that last non-dominant performance? Juan Manuel Marquez. Prior to that, the two pugilists fought to a draw in their first meeting in 2004. There?s an undeniable pattern here. Despite another narrow victory over Marquez, Pacquiao still has trouble with counterpunchers.
On Sunday night, I spoke with Jeff Mayweather about Pacquiao?s performance against Marquez.
When asked about how he had felt before the fight, his opinion went against the grain. While many felt that Pacquiao would dominate Marquez, (myself included), Mayweather expressed that he expected a competitive fight.
?Well, I thought going into the fight that it was going to be a tough fight. You have two guys that have fought twenty-four rounds, and in one fight, one round had determined who was the winner and the other fight was a draw. With that being said, it doesn?t matter. Anytime you match those same two guys up, it?s going to be a war. It?s never going to be one?s going to blow the other one out
