Episode 3 took a break from documenting on the two boxers and instead focused on some of the people surrounding the two fighters.
Side stories: Buboy Fernandez, Manny’s best friend, is shown receiving a meteor tattoo. According to Pacquiao, the tattoo shows that you are a team Pacquiao member. Buboy and Manny go way back. Back to the days when both were starving teenagers. Back to the days Buboy still had a flat tummy and Manny had no purchasing power to afford a Ferrari. Buboy is grateful that the champ hasn?t forgotten about him on his way to the top of the boxing world.
Rafael Rojas was Marquez?s first trainer. He holds the title “Trainer emeritus” and it doesn?t bother him that he is tasked to change the speed back every time its worn out. Boxing has engulfed his entire life and he’s happy to be around the sport. Even in his old age he seems dedicated to boxing and seems to love the sport with all his being.
Alfredo Angulo is shown training. Guess he should’ve trained harder because he was clearly huffing and puffing in only the second round against James Kirkland. The guy punched himself out in the first round.
David Rodela, one of Pacquiao’s sparring partners, tells his story about how Pacquiao hands him a check for a house as a wedding gift. Not surprising given Pacquiao’s willingness to help people.
Just like Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez is also a big celebrity in his native Mexico. But his fans aren’t as crazy as Pacquiao’s. No fans in the world are as crazy as Pacquiao fans.
Marquez’s strength and conditioning coach puts the boxer through different methods to gain weight. To recover quickly, Marquez enters a pure oxygen chamber. He’s been doing this the past few years and it has seemed to work for him.
Pacquiao seems more intense and focused in this camp than he was in his camp for Mosley.
