RAW INTERVIEW with Hot Potato via Hollywood, California – “Whatever new excuses Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has for not fighting Manny Pacquiao because of Top Rank’s position in the negotiation are all bullshit!” remarks Top Rank Robert “Bob” Arum when asked about his thoughts as to why Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is not happening even after more than three years of trying to reach an agreement between the two camps.
“When Floyd Mayweather, Jr. says he hates Top Rank, he really doesn’t mean it,” argues Top Rank Robert “Bob” Arum. “What he truly hates is Manny Pacquiao’s right hand.”
“That’s the truth!” Arum adds. “And don’t get me wrong: Mayweather, Jr. knows boxing very well. He is very intelligent – too intellegent, in fact, to make excuses (for not fighting Pacquiao). We are not going to chase after him. The fight is not happening it’s all because of Mayweather, Jr. He is scared of Pacquiao’s right hand; that’s the real reason. He knows that Pacquiao’s right hand will kill him. No matter how much money you put on the table for Mayweather, Jr., he’s not gonna fight Pacquiao.” Advertisement
For Mayweather, Pacquiao must submit to the Olympic style of random blood-testing until fight date and another one blood draw right after the fight. But, Pacquiao rejects such and, in turn, wants the same Olympic style of random blood-testing to be done 14 days before the fight and one blood right after the fight.
Several laboratory scientists believe that with the advancement of the new medical technology and clinical research, there exists an “injectable masking agent” that potentially has the effect of powerfully concealing the therapeutic level of a drug in the blood. With this same agent, any performance enhancing drug taken for days may not surface in the laborary analysis, according to Dr. Youngyee Hong, director of an institute for laboratory science studies. For Mayweather, Jr., the Olympic style of random-blood testing can give him the assurance that any fighter getting into a fight with him, beginning his fight with Sugar Shane Mosley on May 1 of last year and recently with Victor Ortiz, must be clean and nothing more.
“That’s all I ask, nothing more! insists Mayweather, Jr. “I’ll fight Pacquiao if he submits to the Olympic style of random blood-testing until fight date and one more blood draw right after the fight.”
“Also, I want the United States Anti-Doping Agency to get the blood-testing done on both of us. That’s it.” He adds.
Arum, conversely, rejects the idea of having the United States Anti-Doping Agency conduct the blood-testing. He otherwise believes World Anti-Doping Agency can do the best job without any bias to a foreign fighter like Pacquiao who is from the Philipines.
But, both Arum and Pacquiao bluntly tell the media Mayweather, Jr. is no longer within their frame of thoughts.
“Forget about Mayweather, Jr. He’s no longer within our radar,” says Arum.
Pacquiao, on the other hand, raises the issue about Mayweather, Jr. demanding a net due amount of $ 100,000 to perfect the contract to fight, which many promoters think is unimaginable. Both Arum and Pacquiao decline to state the reasonable amount of pay to Mayweather, Jr. in order to make the fight happening.
Pacquiao argues: “I don’t think there’s a promoter who would agree to that proposal,” says Pacquiao. “That is beyond one’s imagination. He really does not want to fight. He makes new demands each time we come to terms with the previous one. It’s endless. So why bother thinking about him for a fight. He is not important to me.”
Mayweather, Jr. recently is open for any fight and awaits for the coming days of better fights. No schedule is posted yet, as of press time.
For Arum, Mayweather, Jr. is such a very fine fighter who is seen to remain undefeated until he fights Pacquiao. He believes Mayweather, Jr. is no longer relevant to boxing.
“He destroys the promotional value of boxing.”
Arum continues: “Now, we have guys like Timothy Bradley, Amir Khan, Sergio Martinez, Brandon Rios who are willing to fight Pacquiao. On one hand, Mayweather, Jr. is only relevant to boxing inasmuch as he wants hmself to be. But, boxing does not need him. And Pacquiao does not need him, either. Boxing remains alive even without Maywether, Jr.”
