A nickname has never gotten more mileage as Glen ?The Road Warrior? Johnson once again travels into hostile territory to try and wrestle the IBF Super Middleweight title away from the undefeated Lucian Bute in Quebec, City.
Glen?s advanced years have slowed down his output a bit in recent fights and his stamina waned a bit against Tavoris Cloud and Carl Froch. But he is still an intelligent fighter who knows how to land his right hand from many angles and he carries a granite chin into battle. Bute has shown susceptible stamina in his controversial win against Andrade, so Johnson won?t be dealing with a non-stop engine like he did with Cloud and Froch. What he will have to worry about is one of the nastiest body punchers in the game. Lucian has scored more body shot knockouts than any elite fighter I can think of in recent times and that can be kryptonite for an aging warrior like Johnson.
Stylistically Glen has some things going for him here. He has always been able to close distance beautifully and score with his right hand while he does it. I don?t see any reason why that will change here, Lucian can be caught with that shot but Glen will have to really guard against counter uppercuts to the head and body.
Bute has received considerable criticism about always fighting at home and his level of competition. While it?s human nature to want to see the best fight the best, he wasn?t invited to partake in the Super Six and I?d love to see 20,000 people show up to see him fight an available opponent in the United States. A lot of American fans just don?t take to fighters from other countries, but that doesn?t make the criticism valid. He is answering the call here and I?m sure Glen would rather have the extra money to travel. That being said, Thank God Marlon B Wright is nowhere near this fight. I?m not getting into that but just typing the name gave me the chills.
