No knockdown,only increasing doubts:Pacquiao retains his WBO Welterweight title

RINGSIDE REPORT from MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, November 12, 2011 – No knockdowns, only doubts. And it’s in the heads of the majority: the biggest robbery transpired tonight! Manny Pacquiao retains his World Boxing Organization Welterweight Championship belt against challenger and longtime nemesis, Juan Manuel Marquez, in their twelve rounds of boxing before the 16,368 in attendance, mostly Mexicans, on a roller-coaster kind of frenzy.

Marquez, who clearly demonstrated insurmoutable power and dominant techniques in their twelve rounds of boxing, failed to satisfy his supremacy over Pacquiao in the hearts of the three judges. The three judges scored the bout, to wit: Robert Hoyle, 114-114; Dave Moretti, 115-113; and Glenn Trowbridge, 116-112. Pacquiao won by majority decision.

Official final punch statistics showed that Pacquiao connected 30% total punches versus Marquez’s 32%. Pacquiao threw 578 punches, with only 176 connected. Marquez threw 436 punches, with only 138 connected. In terms of jabs thrown, Pacquiao landed 59 out of 304 and Marquez 38 out of 182. As for power punches, Pacquiao landed 117 out of 274 (43%) and Marquez 100 out of 254 (39%).Total rounds gave per round average of landed punches for Pacquiao 14 out of 49 and Marquez 11 out of 36.
