MANILA, Philippines – He?s no ?Mexecutioner,? so don?t call him one.
Manny Pacquiao, in deep training for his Nov. 12 bout with Mexico?s Juan Manuel Marquez, yesterday said he?d rather be called ?Pacman.?
?I do not like the nickname ?Mexecutioner,? the Filipino boxing icon told Lem Satterfield of www.ringtv.com
Pacquiao has fought, and beaten the great Mexican boxers of his era, including Erik Morales (twice), Marco Antonio Barrera (twice) and Marquez (once).
Pacquiao and Marquez will soon square off for the third time, and settle their differences in the ring.
Marquez claims he won both fights with Pacquiao, the 2004 draw and the 2008 split decision favoring the 32-year-old Filipino.
Pacquiao said his love for the Mexican people is the reason why he?s dropping the ?Mexicutioner? tag.
?I love the Mexican boxing fans and that name does not reflect my true feelings about Mexico and its people,? he said.
Pacquiao was in Mexico last September to promote his fight with Marquez.
And the kind of reception he got from the Mexicans, from the fight fans that lined up the streets just to see him, to government officials is something for him to cherish.
?I love Mexico. I love the Mexicans,? he said.
