After his pay-per-view ?Star Power? fight with Victor Ortiz fizzled out in selling at the live gate and PPV numbers last month, Floyd Mayweather is now in a desperate position. There is no one for him to fight who has a big name in order to piggy back his next PPV show with.
Practically everybody on the inside in the boxing industry knows Mayweather will NOT fight Manny Pacquiao because he?s 100% totally psyched out by the Filipino Destroyer. And Floyd is not going to fight Sergio Martinez either, unless the Argentine throws his punches at only half power or with one arm tied behind his back. Those two options are out of the question because it would be the end of The Floyd Mayweather/Al Haymon ?show.?
So the only possible move Floyd can make at this time is to fight Oscar De La Hoya again. With the lack of American stars to promote in America, recycling Oscar is the only move for Floyd and Haymon.
There is no way HBO and Golden Boy are going to invest in Floyd vs. Malignaggi, Spadafora or Matthew Hatton. Those fights would be box office failures even in Las Vegas or Grand Rapids, Floyd?s hometown.
But I believe HBO might be tempted to take one last chance on Floyd with the comeback of the Golden Boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya. It?s a safe fight for Floyd and Haymon too.
