FORMER world champion Marvin Sonsona will have his hands full in his ring return following a 20-month absence when he clashes with dangerous Mexican Carlos Jacobo in a 12-round super-bantamweight fight this Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The main match of the card dubbed `Back with a Vengeance? marks the first fight of the young Filipino pride from General Santos City since losing a fourth round knockout to Wilfredo Vazquez February of last year for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) 122-lbs. championship in Puerto Rico.
Reports of Sonsona having attitude problem and bad habit surfaced after the loss ? the first of his career ? before he went on a year-long sabbatical from fighting.
Now, local boxing?s prodigal son is back, more focused as attested by his Cebu-based promoter Sammy Gelo-ani.
?Now he?s challenged. You can see the changes in him,? said Gelo-ani during yesterday?s formal press conference for the bout at Max?s Greenbelt, where also in attendance were Sonsona, Jacobo, his Mexican trainer Miguel Salazar, and TV5 sports manager Vito Lazatin.
