IBF light middleweight champion Cornelius ?K9? Bundrage 31-4 (18) is looking for a fight, and the thirty-eight year old Detroit native has no problem in calling out the biggest names the fight world has to offer. In this exclusive interview conducted by Boxingtalk, K9 speaks out on his career and throws out names that he wants to step in the ring with, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.: I know there was something you wanted to get out to the fans and the fight world, what would that message be?
K9 Bundrage: I just want to tell everybody that I thank them for their prayers, and I appreciate where I am at, being the Detroit people?s champion. From Tommy Hearns, to Joe Louis, to Sugar Ray Robinson to the latest, I tell cats all the time that I may not be the greatest but I am the latest. We have not had a world champion in Detroit in twenty-six years, and now we have K9, the IBF world champion. I appreciate it all, I appreciate Chrysler, I was just in a Chrysler commercial. Look at the Detroit Lions, they are 4-0, they haven?t been 4-0 since 1980. Detroit is on fire right now, it starts with the champion, Cornelius ?K9? Bundrage.
Not only I am champion, I beat world champions too, I beat Baysangurov, now he is a world champion.
BH: I am glad that you are feeling great and things are going your way, but being a Dallas Cowboy fan such as I, I would rather not discuss the Detroit Lions.
(We Both Laugh)
K9: It?s all good, it is just that a lot of people try to wipe Detroit off the map, when I was on ?The Contender?; I feel that I beat Steve Forbes, but being that I am from Detroit, they gave it to a guy that was from Vegas. But look at my resume, I am sneaking up on these guys, they still cannot believe that I am a world champion. I was a bit frustrated because I could not get the big fights, now things are starting to look up. Manny is not training Cotto anymore, so I may be bale to get that fight right now, so that is the WBA title. I beat Baysangurov, now he holds the WBO title, we can do it again. Ricardo Mayorga is begging for the fight with me, I would only take that fight for big money, but I have not heard anything from Don King. Mayorga keeps saying that Don promised him the fight, but I do not know, the IBF says they are not going to sanction that fight, so I do not know how that fight is going to happen.
Now we have Saul Alvarez who went behind the champs, now he has a belt, but he needs to fight a champ, Saul cannot keep on going around behind the champs, you cannot keep tricking the fans, the fans know what is going on. They keep saying, we want to see K9 fight Alvarez; the fans want to see champions fight champions, and that is what it should be all about.
