After a lackluster performance in San Andres, Manila more than two months ago, Z Gorres is out to redeem himself when he climbs the ring for a 12-round Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) eliminator bout against Wisanu Pornobnum of Thailand on Oct. 29 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
The eliminator bout might just as well be the title fight as the division’s holder, Masayuki Arinaga of Japan, is set to vacate his crown according to Gorres’ manager Antonio Aldeguer.
Number one
As the number one contender in the division, Gorres’ mandatory challenger status to Arinaga is as good as being the champion, but the OPBF hierarchy ordered the eliminator against the No. 2 ranked Wisano, who holds an impressive 16-5-1 record.
Gorres, who failed to impress Manila writers in his last fight, has a 21-1-1 card under his belt.
“For the record, the OPBF championship will be held here in the Philippines. The Japanese champion is going to vacate the title and as the mandatory challenger we already got the option to host the championship here,” said Aldeguer during a dinner meeting with local scribes at the Casino Espa?ol Thursday night.

ALA Boys promoter Sammy Gello-ani and chief trainer Edito Villamor accompanied Aldeguer.
The Gorres-Wisanu bout is the top event of the SGG Sports Promotion card “Fight For Fame” that will also feature Michael Domingo defending his RP bantamweight title for the first time against Rolly Lunas of the RWS Stable also for 12 rounds.
Domingo won the title via a slim margin over Joel Bauya also last July 30 in San Andres, while Lunas failed in his chance to win the belt last April when he challenged Bauya in Mandaue City.
Domingo packs a 25-14-3 record, while Bauya holds a 20-5 slate.
KO puncher
Also seeing action in the undercards is knockout puncher Donnie Nietes against Boholano WBC International champion Armand de la Cruz for 10 rounds.
Nietes, of the ALA Stable holds a 15-1-3 ring record while de la Cruz carries a 17-6-2 record.
Promoter Sammy Gello-ani is preparing 32 more rounds in the undercard.
