Images from New York: Donaire makes weight, primed for another showcase

Earlier today in New York, WBC and WBO champion Nonito Donaire comfortably made the bantamweight limit of 118 pounds ahead of his clash tomorrow night with Omar Narvaez, coming in at 116 ? pounds. Narvaez, who weighed 117 pounds, is moving up in weight from the super flyweight division and will challenge Donaire inside of the WaMu Theater in Madison Square Garden on HBO?s Boxing After Dark.

It was slightly surprising to see Donaire come in well under the bantamweight limit, as he has made it known that he will be eyeing a move up to the junior featherweight class in his next fight in early 2012. This is likely a sign of a rigorous camp from the hard-working Fil-Am star, who realizes that he must get past Narvaez before any super fight at 122 or 126 pounds can materialize.

Most people are expecting a dominant display from Donaire tomorrow night and it should be a show worth watching.
