BACOLOD CITY, Philippines ? Donnie Nietes has Mexican rival Ramon Garcia all figured out that he doesn?t expect him to last when they rumble Saturday night.
Nietes said he has viewed at least four fights of Garcia against various foes and has come to the conclusion that there will be no stopping to his coronation as the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) light-flyweight king.
?Lahat ng laban niya puro kaliwa lang ang ginagamit,? said Nietes after weighing in at the light-fly limit of 108 lbs.
And once Garcia unleashes that favorite punch of his, Nietes will respond with what he hopes will put an end to their scheduled 12-round contest at the St. La Salle Coliseum in what ALA Boxing has billed as Pinoy Pride 9.
Nietes, 29, said his overhand right and uppercut should get the job done in making him a two-division world champion since he had also been the WBO minimum weight champion before deciding to go up in weight.
As Nietes was telling Manila-based scribes on how he intends to pick apart Garcia, the 29-year-old champion from La Paz in the Baja California region of Mexico was trying to shed off excess baggage after tipping the scales earlier one pound over the limit.
Garcia was forced to go out of the SM Activity Center after he was declared as overweight to run.
When Garcia got back less than an hour later to get on the scales for the second time, there was tension around the weighing scale and he had to strip just to make 108 lbs.
Sporting a 16-2-1 slate with nine stoppages, Garcia, who arrived in the country two weeks ago to acclimatize, said there are no worries despite the weight scare.
?No problem,? said Garcia, who ran around the mall three times to get rid of the extra one pound.
Still, Nietes believes all signs point to a smashing win.
?One-hundred percent mananalo ako,? said Nietes, who has a 28-1-3 record with 16 knockouts.
Nietes points to the fact that he won all of his three fights on hostile Mexican territory.
