MANNY Pacquiao is in the news again. No, it’s not about the Filipino boxing hero’s latest exploits inside the ring, but an incident in his native General Santos City last Saturday where he allegedly hit a driver following a traffic altercation.
Jonne Bulandres claimed that Pacquiao slapped him that caused a gash on his lip. He reported the matter to the Makar Police Station.
The incident reportedly took place at Barangay Labangal, near Pacquiao’s house.
Pacquiao, however, vehemently denied the allegations. In an interview with ABS-CBN, Pacquiao said he never hit Bulandres contrary to the claims of the driver.
According to Pacquiao, he was riding his big bike when an L-300 van driven by Bulandres suddenly stopped and nearly hit him from behind.
Pacquiao said that when he confronted Bulandres, the driver hurled invectives, forcing him to engage Bulandres in a discussion.
The boxer was just surprised to learn later that Bulandres had filed a complaint before the police. Because of this, Pacquiao is asking the driver to apologize to him.
“Never akong nanapak ng tao at kung hindi s’ya mag-sorry sa akin, idemanda ko s’ya ng libel (I never hit anybody and if he will not say sorry, I will sue him with libel),” Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao won the World Boxing Council (WBC) international super featherweight title last month via a sixth-round stoppage of Mexican Hector Velazquez.
