LOCAL media are up in arms against discrimination by Team Pacquiao preventing them from covering Manny Pacquiao?s training here for the November 12 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.
In a story published in one of the bigger national dailies, local media are to be barred from covering his training inside the Shape Up gym at Cooyeesan Hotel even if national and international media are allowed.
Security personnel are not even supportive of the local media?s plight giving them a run about even if the champion is actually training inside the gym and national and international media are with him.
?This is discriminatory,? said Pigeon Lobien, chairman of the local sportswriters group, the Cordillera Sportswriters Association.
A photo-correspondent of another popular national daily had a makeshift cross placed at his backpack by members of the Team Pacquiao as a prank while covering the pound-per-pound king?s jogging at Santo Lucia.
Other photo-correspondents were also beneficiaries of the same or similar prank in the past.
The news report published in one of the national dailies read: ?Local mediamen were barred from entering the gym, and it could stay that way for the remainder of Pacquiao?s stay in Baguio.?
