Having just defended his WBC junior middleweight title last Saturday night in Los Angeles, Saul Alvarez is looking at another potential title defense in December, before possibly getting a crack at Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, initial talks for a proposed showdown between unbeaten Mexican titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Saul Alvarez have already begun.
While in Las Vegas to promote Mayweather vs. Ortiz, Schaefer acknowledged he has begun talks about a potential April fight.
?Next week we?re going to sit down with Canelo Promotions to discuss what comes next; we?ll look for him to fight in Cancun at the end of the year and then in April against Chavez Jr.; we have begun negotiations for that,? said Schaefer.
?There aren?t many details yet, I can only assure you that both fighters wan?t the fight but we don?t know if it will benefit us to have it in the U.S. or in Mexico but I think there?s a 70% chance that the fight gets made assuming they accept a catchweight of 157 pounds, which would be fair.?
Asked about the possibility of hosting the fight at Azteca Stadium, Schaefer said he would need to first discuss it with Bob Arum, who promotes Chavez Jr.
