Last week as my Ortiz/Mayweather prediction was posted, I received a ton of emails and calls on what amoron I am for picking Mayweather to win not by the safe decision but by knockout. They said I wasdreaming for thinking that the always play it safe Floyd, a fighter who hasn?t scored a knockout winsince 2007 when he introduced Hatton into the ring post, would score a ko win. Ok so the ko didn?t comein the tenth round as I had predicted it would, it came sooner, much sooner.
I will fill you all in on a little secret, I based my prediction on Victor Ortiz words opposed to film study.I mean don?t get me wrong, Ialso did my film study, but the words, ?boxing does not define me? kept repeating in my head over and over again.Victor Ortiz first utteredthose very fine words after he fought to a draw against Lamont Peterson. That?s just the thing, Ortiz didn?t study, he passed the quiz but failed the final exam. At this point, Cortez had no clue on what happened, he just began to count, a sniper could have blasted Ortiz from the nosebleeds and Cortez would have still been like , ?
