BEFORE the much anticipated world-class boxing event ?Pinoy Pride 9? next month in Bacolod City, its neighboring island Iloilo City will have a boxing event of their own as ALA Promotions? and Cobra Energy Drink?s ?Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing? hits its shores this Sunday.
Headlining the free event at the Robinsons Place car park , wherein some of the most promising Filipino prospects will be showcased, is fast-rising Mharjhun Macahilig.
The 21-year-old Cebu-based Aklan native will have his hands full as he trades leathers with journeyman Edison Berwela in a 10-round bout. After suffering his first career loss by majority decision at the hands of Fernando Ocon last year, Macahilig has been on a roll with seven straight wins and now holds an impressive 12-1 slate with seven knockouts.
Although Berwela has an unimpressive record of 10-14-4 with only a single win by knockout, he too has had a streak of his own. He has won all his four fights this year, including an upset win over erstwhile unbeaten prospect Robert Udtohan.
