Deep, conservative and populist

HONESTLY, it took me quite a while to decide to which section I should submit this column, the Sports Page or the Opinion Page.

This is actually about the Greatest Filipino boxer who ever lived but the problem is, this is about his politics.

Manny Pacquiao has actually made things a little complicated for all of us. He is a boxer, the Greatest the World has ever known, a politician, an actor, a singer, a TV show host, a basketball player, a billiards player and so many more.

Let?s simplify things and discuss Pacquiao politics now.

I went up to Baguio City Monday last week to deliver my boxer, undefeated featherweight Lorenzo Villanueva, to his new coach, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, and to say hello to Manny, who except for a chance encounter a month ago in Davao City, I have not talked with for almost two years.

The ?hello? started a very long conversation and stretched to having lunch with him where we talked about so many things, including his reported declaration of his intention to run for the vice presidency in 2016 in a radio interview in Mexico.

?It was not understood very well. I said I would run for the vice presidency in 2016 on the assumption that the move in Congress now to amend the Constitution would gain ground,? Manny said clarifying the announcement that earned him and his advisors harsh criticisms and brickbats for their alleged ignorance of the law since by 2016 he will be two years short of the required age limit of 40.
