FILIPINO boxer Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes said he?s willing to do whatever it takes to snatch the world light-flyweight crown against Mexican champion Ramon Garcia, when they clash against each other on Saturday at the University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod City.
?It?s very challenging to fight a champion like him in front of my fellow Filipinos,? said Nietes, a former World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimum?weight champion. ?But I cannot underestimate him because as a champion he knows how to fight well.?
The Bacolod-born Nietes, 29, is looking forward to seize the WBO light-flyweight belt and improve his 28-1 win-loss slate with 16 knockouts.
His last fight was also held at the St. La Salle Coliseum in April where he stopped Armando Vazquez in the first round.
Garcia (16-2 with 9 KOs) said he is very confident to retain the title, ?We?re ready,? said Garcia through an interpreter when asked about his first defense of the crown he won via fourth-round knockout of Jesus Geles last April. Garcia will have a public workout at the SM City Bacolod Entertainment Center on Wednesday.
