Victor Ortiz is determined to remain the WBC welterweight champion Saturday night on HBO Pay-Per-View. Floyd Mayweather Jr. could care less that he is the heavy favorite when he returns to the ring after a 16-month hiatus. He wants to finish off Ortiz early, but it may not be that easy, even if the undefeated Mayweather is still considered by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the business.
Four days and counting before the anticipated fight and Mayweather is going to talk. It is his routine to talk trash about an opponent, even though he was not showing any signs of the old Floyd Mayweather Jr when the fight was announced during the three-city media tour. It was a different Mayweather then, more complimentary about his younger opponent, and no trash talk.
But he should not consider Ortiz as an easy task. This could be his most difficult task, and the time to be concerned is when Victor Ortiz throws a powerful punch that Mayweather will not be able to counter. If Mayweather can?t handle the power punch like he did so well in the past, then we are seeing an aging fighter with the proper answers as to why getting in the ring with Manny Pacquiao has become an issue.
