Earlier today in Atlantic City, New Jersey, former WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa and formidable Daniel Ponce de Leon both weighed in at 127 pounds for their clash tomorrow night at the Boardwalk Hall. While Gamboa may have been stripped of his belt for unreasonable circumstances, he is still regarded by many as the man to beat in the featherweight class because of his uncanny blend of quickness and deceptive power.
De Leon is coming off of a controversial unanimous decision to Adrien Broner this past March, a fight that many felt he actually deserved to win. Once known as a crude slugger, de Leon?s skills have improved over time and he will likely make a fight out of things for as long as the fight lasts.
Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who oversees Gamboa, has mentioned that he is looking at Atlantic City as an ideal venue to showcase the Cuban?s marvelous talents in the future.
