Michael Aldeguer, the president of ALA Promotions and a sportsman I?ve known since our high school basketball days, explains why the 8th edition of Pinoy Pride is unique.
?This Saturday is exciting because of the rivalry between the Philippines and Mexico which we will have in a country vs country atmosphere,? said Michael, the second son of ALA himself, Antonio Lopez Aldeguer.
Is this the first time ever that our nation will face not one or two–but three–Mexicans in one event?
In Spanish translation, the answer is this: Si. Yes.
What makes the battle two nights from today different? ?If you are a true-blooded boxing fan,? said Michael, ?you will surely be familiar with the names of Francisco Rosas and Gerson Guerrero who have fought some of the big names in the sport. They?ve fought many big events outside of Mexico.
?Rosas has fought Juan Carlos Reveco, Roman Gonzales, considered to be one the best in the smaller weights. Guerrero has fought World Champion Christian Mijares and Daniel Ponce de Leon.?
But the fight that excites–and scares–Mr. Aldeguer is a different one.
?The fight that may steal the show and is a shock to me personally was when Team Montoya revealed the other day at the press conference that the record of Rosbel Montoya is not 12 wins 11 KO?s with 2 losses as stated in the boxrec. It?s a menacing 34 wins, 29 KO?s, 4 losses as some fights were not submitted by the Mexican boxing commission to boxrec,? said Aldeguer.
