FILIPINO boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will be featured in a 10-episode sports documentary that will be aired by ESPN Star Sports sometime in January next year.
Dubbed “The Difference”, the 10-part 30-minute per episode sports documentary looks into the physical attributes and mental toughness of athletes who excelled in their respective sports disciplines.
“(It is) one of the first few attempts (of Star Sports) to do sports documentary,” the Pacquiao episode director Jason Lai said of the project.
Among those who will also be featured are Olympic gold medallists and World Cup champions or member of World Cup teams who have excelled in their respective sports.
Pacquiao is featured as boxing champ and the episode on him will essay his path to success and the qualities that made him a world champion.
Lai said, “focus of this series is to profile some prominent athletes from Asia and Western countries with greater emphasis on Asians because they have lesser exposures in the international TV networks”.
The director said the series is produced by the Singapore-based production house Oak3 Films.
Oak 3 Films has done documentaries for international broadcast networks like Channel News Asia, Discovery, European network ZDF (Germany) and many others.
Lai, who was accompanied by his cameraman and sound technician, arrived here last week and interviewed Pacquiao a day before the latter left for Tokyo.
The episode will also feature sports buffs and boxing experts who have closely followed Pacquiao’s boxing career including Adriano “Rey” Golingan, president of the General Santos City chapter of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines.
