While his September 17th opponent Floyd Mayweather has been making headlines recently due to his strained relationship with father, WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, whose own father abandoned he and his brother as children, has been focusing solely on Mayweather. Who he at least sounds to be confident of beating.
Speaking to the press on a conference call Wednesday Ortiz said of Mayweather:
“He can’t adjust to me. I don’t care what he brings. He’s done. He was done when he signed to fight Victor Ortiz.”
He also poked fun at Mayweather’s age, saying:
“I will bring a cane for the old man so his back won’t hurt too much.”
Ortiz at 24 is ten years younger than Mayweather, and also holds advantages in power, strength and size. The odds against him however are long and getting longer as the fight gets closer, and few are picking him to pull off an upset.
