Pacquiao recording contract suit heads to mediation

Settlement efforts will continue in a $10 million lawsuit that alleges boxer Manny Pacquiao breached a recording contract by failing to deliver any songs, attorneys in the case told a judge Thursday.

During a brief court hearing, lawyers for Pacquiao and RBM Group International said they will try and resolve the dispute with the help of a private mediator.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey scheduled a post-mediation status conference for May 25 and trial for June 4.

In the suit filed Nov. 17, 2010, RBM alleged that Pacquiao agreed in September 2009 to record 12 tracks. Executives at the music company claim they paid him $40,000 for the first two songs, but that he never produced any songs.

The suit seeks $200,000 in general damages and $10 million for lost profits.

Pacquiao?s lawyers have denied any wrongdoing on his part and have filed a motion to dismiss most of the case. A hearing is scheduled Oct. 26.
