Mendoza: Mayweather is only returning for the 3rd time

FLOYD Mayweather Jr. does not only love to dance, he also loves to retire.

Hasn?t he retired three times already?

The first time, it took him one year and 10 months before returning to the ring.

That?s when he fought Juan Manuel Marquez. That was in September 2009, 22 months after Mayweather said he was ending his career with a 39-0 record.

I watched that fight on TV with Marvin Velayo, while the two of us were attending the birthday bash of our good friend Ramon Uy of Bacolod. It proved to be one of the dullest fights ever in the history of the sport.

In that sleeper of a bout, Mayweather appeared he could still dance because against Marquez, he was fighting a bloated lightweight.

It was like watching a 10-wheeler truck (Marquez) engaging a Ferrari in a circuit race.

Up to now, I don?t know what made Marquez decide to fight boxing?s version of Fred Astaire, if not John Travolta or even Patrick Swayze.

You are a bulging ?Biggest Loser? contestant, and you engage someone as trim and as fit, if not as shrewd a boxer as Mayweather in a fight, what does that make of you?

A virtual plaything, if not a punching bag.
