As yet Manny Pacquiao’s team have yet to comment on why accounting firm VisionQwest was fired only weeks after being hired to look into the pound for pound great’s earnings, although involvement of some kind from Top Rank boss Bob Arum has been rumored in several reports.
When it was announced that Pacquiao had hired an outside firm to handle his taxes and more importantly contract reviews, it was welcomed by many as a good thing, believing that it would lead to the fighter cutting the dead wood from his expansive entourage and ensuring that he had impartial advisers looking out for his best interests.
Whatever VisionQwest found when they looked into the WBO welterweight champion’s finances however appears not to have met with someone in the camp’s approval.
According to VisionQwest they were fired last week without explanation, and are currently looking into their legal options.
Like so many of the recent developments behind the scenes within Pacquiao’s camp though, it appears that there is a lot more to the story than anyone is willing to talk about.
Just who it was who pushed VisionQwest out and why they did it will surely come to light in the coming days however, with fans just as eager for answers as VisionQwest themselves.
Perhaps tellingly, trainer Freddie Roach recently claimed that Pacquiao’s election to congress last year had left him broke, stating in a recent interview:

“He’s broke because of that (Political career) and all the people he flies around to his fights. He goes through money like you wouldn’t believe. He can’t say no.”
Of course, broke is a relative term.
With endorsement deals with Hewlett Packard and Nike, not to mention multi-million dollar purses twice a year, Pacquiao isn’t going to be going hungry anytime soon.
His aspirations of rising further in the Filipino political scene and his generosity towards both strangers and his own entourage however could well see Pacquiao in the same situation as so many other fighters who have fought on for too long.
