Columbian ?Khanqueror? Prescott (24-2, 19ko) burst onto the scene with his dramatic knockout of Amir Kahn and has since developed into not just a power puncher, but like Kahn he has become a better-rounded boxer. On September 10th he takes on Paul McCloskey(22-1 12ko) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in an WBA title eliminator bout that could springboard him back into the ring with Kahn in December.
My first experience with Prescott was an ESPN bout against another tough Florida based undefeated fighter in Richard Abril that was an entertaining bout that could have went either way for Prescott and was a touch controversial. Prescott would next face the undefeated Kahn, 18-0 at the time and shock the boxing world with a first round knockout win.
Prescott, still training in Miami took a few minutes to answer questions from 8countnews!
8CN: How have your preparations for the McCloskey fight gone?
?Everything has gone well, I’m preparing in Miami with my coach Eufracio Gonzalez. We will have trained 8 weeks for this fight and I’m in great shape. I’ve sparred in Miami with several different southpaws so I feel I’m prepared for whatever McCloskey has to offer.?
8CN: When will you travel to Ireland and what do you think your reception will be in The British Isles?
?I, my trainer, and manager Luis Decubass Jr. will fly out on Sept.3 to be in Ireland for a week before the fight. I hear N. Ireland is beautiful place and I’m always excited to take my talents to a new country. Both times I flew to England; I was treated very well by the fans. I love fighting oversees because the fans are great, they support their fighters as well as boxing in general. ?
8CN: What do you feel is the most dangerous element you face when fighting McCloskey?
?Nothing! He is not a big puncher I just hope he doesn’t run all over the ring. He’s not the typical Irish fighter; most are warriors that fight the way I fight. I like Matthew Macklin, he is an exciting fighter & come September 10th, I hope McCloskey is ready to put on a great performance, a real war for Ireland fans. I want every fan to be like I was at that Prescott fight & never forget it.?
8CN: Are you concerned your styles will clash and risk head butt or fouls?
?You can’t go into a fight with negative thoughts because most likely it will happen or u just won’t concentrate on your game plan thinking about getting cut. I am a fighter & if I get cut I keep fighting this is a contact sport & should be ready for any type of foul.?
8CN: You have become a more rounded fighter since your knockout of Khan what do you contribute that to?
?Hard Work and dedication, I’ve been working a lot of different things with my trainer so you can say he has helped me round out all my skills. Most people see me as a big puncher with no skills but I’m a very good boxer also & can fight at any distance. It?s always good to have that in your back pocket just in case it?s needed.?
