Days after the Mares/Agbeko fight ended, controversy still looms, penetrating even the thickest core of supporters known to man. Many continue their efforts to protect the image of Mexican Abner Mares, but seems once again, the plot has thickened. Every action we’ve done in the past finds a way to manifest itself in the present, and for Mares, we now learn that there’s at least one action he probably wishes he could take back. A couple fights in a row now, we’ve seen low blows landed against his opponents that served as insurmountable obstacles in the end. Conventional wisdom would ask, “why only in the fights, yet never in sparring?” The evolution of that question would ponder, “if it has been happening in sparring, why hasn’t this tendency ever surfaced in talks by past sparring partners or been corrected by his corner?”
A blatant non-response of these two questions would validate that it could only be perceived as intentional, as it has only happened when the bright lights are on and the agony of defeat is present. Referee Russell Mora overlooked these actions and failed to admit flaw in his work, yet in the past disqualified Anthony Peterson for the very same thing against another fellow Mexican fighter. We may never know if Mares’ punches were in fact intentional, but this video, “Sports Science” Episode 4 courtesy of FSN, certainly gives us all something to think about.
