Earlier tonight in Baja California, Mexico, former three-division champion Fernando Montiel halted Nicaragua?s Alvaro Perez in under three rounds. The fight marked Montiel?s second in the junior featherweight division following his humbling TKO loss to Nonito Donaire this past February inside of the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Various reports had Montiel in control from the outset against his overmatched foe, with a left hand in round three ending matters as Perez was down and out. After the bout the 32-year old Montiel showed his interest in collecting another world title before gunning for a rematch against Donaire next year.
?I was promised by Fernando Beltran that my next fight would be for the super bantamweight world title. I?m back and ready to win my fourth title in a fourth weight division and in 2012 I will pursue a rematch against Nonito Donaire,” said Montiel.
Montiel?s talent has always been evident but his aspirations of wanting to face Donaire again following that chilling defeat speaks volume of his courage.
