Assuming that Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25KOs) beats WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2, 22KOs) as expected on September 17th, speculation will then soon turn to who the self styled ‘Money’ will take on next.
According to WBA and IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan, he is going to be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent.
Every chance Khan gets, whether of his own volition or from being asked by interviewers constantly, the fast rising Brit is talking about fighting Mayweather.
He has a time frame in mind that suits Mayweather’s tendency towards fighting once per year. He has a venue picked out. He also has his two opponents that will ready him to face Mayweather in mind. So eager is he in fact that there is every chance he may even have his shorts and entrance music picked out.
Adding credence to Khan’s plan however, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer is still talking up an in house fight between the light welterweight champion and Mayweather instead of mentioning the possibility of the long awaited showdown between the American and Manny Pacquiao. Similarly Floyd’s uncle, noted trainer Jeff Mayweather, recently insinuated to FightHype that he believes a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao may take at least a couple of years to materialize, seemingly leaving next year free for Khan.
