Rising Pinoy prospect Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta hasn’t been working lately at Coach Freddie Roach’s famed Hollywood Wild Card Gym because he’s trying to one up Manny Pacquiao.
But, in a way, Gesta did just that on Wednesday when he sparred not with one Sugar Shane Mosley but with two fighters bearing the still illustrious name.
No one was more delighted about this sparring serendipity than co-manager and trainer Vince Parra who was once a sparmate for Hall Of Famer and most recent Pacman foe Sugar Shane Mosley.
“Shane and his son, Shane Jr., showed up unannounced,” Parra said. “We’d been working with Jose Benavidez but Jose had to get over to Arizona for a press conference. We’ll be sparring with another great talent, Jorge Linares, soon but we needed someone to practice with on this particular day.”
Parra said the elder Mosley went a couple of rounds with the lefthanded Gesta and then so did Shane Jr., a well built welterweight with big ambitions.
