There’s all of this talk about a Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao fight and of course the upcoming fights between Marquez and Pacquiao, and Mayweather and Victor Ortiz. What about a fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr? Just a few short years ago people would have scoffed at that notion but not anymore they aren’t.
I recently spoke with the legendary trainer Freddie Roach and got his thoughts on a potential Khan Vs. Mayweather bout, “I would take that fight right now. If they offer that right now, I would take that fight today. I welcome the challenge” said Roach. The legendary trainer is very confident and has no problems putting Khan in there with a guy like Mayweather, “My guy is ready for that fight today.”
Recently it seems as though perhaps some of the ice is thawing in regards to a hopeful Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao fight. Still in the way of that fight ever happening is the slander suit put forth by Manny Pacquiao against the Mayweathers. When I spoke with Floyd Mayweather Sr some months back, he said, “Won’t be no fight as long as there is a lawsuit against us.” So there still lays that issue. Advertisement
Freddie Roach is sitting pretty. He’s got his mega star in Manny Pacquiao who will soon face Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time, and he’s got a rising super star in Amir Khan. It seems apparent that Khan is shaping up to take the torch from Pacquiao once Pacman hangs up the gloves.
So what would the outcome be if Amir Khan ever mixed it up Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr? Perhaps that can be answered more easily after we all see how Floyd Does Vs. Victor Ortiz. Floyd definitely did not cherry pick with this opponent. Ortiz is a young and strong world champion who seems like a man possessed. Ortiz may have something to say in all of this. Khan may have to wait his turn, or perhaps have to fight Ortiz first.
Khan is certainly in a position of making a lot of money in the very near future. If he ever did get his chance at Mayweather, obviously it would be the biggest opportunity of his life. A victory over a Mayweather puts Khan in the stratosphere.
