Earlier today in Los Angeles, California, WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins came face to face with his next opponent, former champion Chad Dawson. The 46-year old Hopkins is coming off of a unanimous decision over Jean Pascal in May while Dawson saw action on the undercard by defeating Romania’s Adrian Diaconu.
Dawson had spent time in the past training in Las Vegas under the likes of Floyd Mayweather Sr. and most recently Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, but decided to hook up with Emanuel Steward following his own loss to Pascal last August. Dawson has long called for a showdown with Hopkins and the two men will meet this coming October 15th at the Staples Center.
Also in attendance were former champion Jorge Linares and Sinaloa, Mexico’s Antonio DeMarco. The two men will vie for the vacant WBC lightweight crown in one of the main undercard attractions to the October pay-per-view event.
