Gejon goes for world boxing title on Sunday

ERIBERTO GEJON has been so inspired by the exploits of his boxing idols, he is convinced he has what it takes to join them in the ranks of celebrity.

Exactly two weeks after the rousing victories of Manny Pacquiao, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Fil-Am Brian Viloria in Los Angeles, Gejon also shoots for national prominence when he battles Yutaka Niida for the World Boxing Association (WBA) minimum weight crown on Sunday in Yokohama, Japan.

Gejon left Monday morning for Tokyo and his chief handler Wakee Salud revealed that the long-armed bomber from Cebu is upbeat about his chances in the scheduled 12-rounder at the Yokohama Arena.

To give Gejon added inspiration, Salud has convinced Pacquiao to travel with him to Japan to watch the fight.

“Kayang-kaya naman, sir,” Gejon said when asked about the prospects of seeing him wearing the WBA title belt around his waist next week when he arrives in Manila.

“(I sparred) 120 rounds (for this fight),” said Gejon, who at 5-6 ? is four inches taller than the gutsy champion.
