It’s appropriate in more ways than one.
I’m talking about Mexican counterpuncher Juan Manuel Marquez getting the full Hollywood Treatment from promoter Top Rank and its pay per view TV partner HBO on Tuesday.
I say it’s certainly fitting since what they are peddling with this trilogy bout is what is to be expected, used goods. This fight is more about the preceding two bouts, both of them wildly competitive and controversial, between Juan Ma and Manny Pacquiao than it is any kind of portent of either’s fighter’s future.
They’re using cosmetics literally and figuratively to “pretty up” Juan Ma and trying to give the fistic consumers the idea, no let’s mark that down to a notion, that the 37 year old Hall Of Famer from Mexico City actually has a chance to derail the Pinoy Idol come Nov. 12 in Las Vegas.
No way, Don Jose, no way and no how.
Chapter Three will be, at best, mildly competitve because the great bigger man will beat the great smaller man. It could be as one-sided as was JMM’s points defeat to Pacman’s archrival, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
