HOW much can one of the world?s highest-paid athletes give to his less-privileged people? It depends upon the temperament of the athlete. In the case of boxing?s pound-for-pound best, the Filipino Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao, I expect it to be big. That view is based on three reasons: he is known to be generous, he is a politician and he earns millions of dollars.
Okay, not all politicians are truly generous. Most have a motive in giving, which is to indirectly buy the votes of their constituents. And they don?t usually use their own money for that but our taxes through so-called pork barrel, or Priority Development Assistance Fund. Worse, these politicians actually get cuts or commissions from the appropriation.
That?s why I find the report of the website Philboxing.com yesterday interesting.
