On August 5, Bobby Gunn will square off John L. Sullivan style against pro boxer Rich Stewart who is 14-9-2 in his Queensberry Rules matches. This bare knuckle event has been the subject of much chatter among Arkansas boxing fans and has received a great deal of national attention.
Gunn was scheduled to fight South African MMA fighter Chris Thompson.
“I have over 50 MMA fights here in South Africa, but many of them are not recorded. This is not going to be an even match. I am far too experienced and it will show when I breake Gunn’s face. Please let him know we are not fighting with pillows as he is used to. This is knuckles only and thats where I came from. I am so happy Mr. Feldman is doing this event.”
When the message was relayed to Gunn, he seemed amused. He chuckled confidently and said nothing.
Since that time, Thompson pulled out of the fight.
