FOR LIFTING the spirits of his battered nation, Manny Pacquiao has been given the green light to live the next few days like a member of royalty.
Pacquiao, who was paraded down the streets of Manila shortly after his arrival from Los Angeles on Friday morning via Philippine Airlines, currently receives royal treatment at his two-bedroom suite at The Manila Hotel courtesy of the City of Manila.
The stay at the historic landmark, will be good until Monday, according to Pacquiao, who had once occupied the prized McArthur Suite almost two years ago when he scored a rousing win over Marco Antonio Barrera.
On top of the suite, Pacquiao was also given two complimentary rooms for his guests and some friends and his Mitsubishi Pajero will be escorted around town by motorcycle-riding cops.
The suite has a fax machine, big-sized refrigerator, round table, sofa, receiving lounge, several TV sets and restrooms as well. A butler is on standby in case the “king” decides to order snacks or even a full meal.
Yesterday morning, those who paid their visits include Salud and inactive boxing promoter Bomber Pamiloza.
In the middle of their hearty conversation, Pacquiao’s cell phone rang and Salud quickly motioned that it was a bigwig on the other line.
“Good evening po sa inyo, First Gentleman,” said Pacquiao, refering to the President’s husband, Mike Arroyo, who was calling in from San Francisco.
“Baka po susundo ako kay Madam President bukas,” added Pacquiao.
Then, Pacquiao did not utter a word, listened intently and before he pressed “end,” he flashed a smile and said “goodbye, po.”
The conversation probably lasted for just a minute, but Pacquiao was nevertheless thrilled that it did not take long before the VIP returned his call.
