Floyd Mayweather Sr. made a surprising comment in a published report that he has heard that Oscar De La Hoya will box again. Now, we know Floyd Mayweather Sr. may say some absurd things to the media but this idea actually does make some sense, when you think about it.
Floyd Jr. does not want to fight Manny Pacquiao and lose by knockout, that much should be clear by now. So after Victor Ortiz is presumably taken care of on September 17, Floyd, his advisor Al Haymon, Golden Boy and HBO are going to want a big money fight with a limited amount of risk for Mayweather Jr.
There are not many options out there for Mayweather. Amir Khan is still not a global superstar, nor is Tim Bradley, Paulie Malignaggi, Pauly Spadafora. You can be 100% certain Mayweather is not going to take a chance and get in the ring with Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez. That?s why a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya would make a lot of sense from the Mayweather point of view. Oscar De La Hoya is still an enormous name in the boxing world ? and one of the biggest revenue generators in pay-per-view history.
If Floyd Mayweather Sr. is correct in what he has heard from his sources from within the boxing world that Oscar De La Hoya is going to make a return to boxing activity at age 38, it would seem that the Mayweather vs. De La Hoya rematch could be the master plan by the powers that be, who will do anything to protect their manufactured, corporate ?champion? Floyd Mayweather from ever having to fight and get brutally knocked out by Manny Pacquiao.
