Bread, What’s going on brother? Man, I’m sitting here at Walmart on this lovely Sunday morning waiting for them to complete my oil change and thought I’d write in to share my thoughts on the past evening fight. First, I wanna tip my hat to Amir Kahn. He really has it going right now. Tall, rangy kid who is not afraid to mix it up. Talks a lot of shit but I think he’s really good for our beloved sport. Now about Zab. Don’t get me wrong here in that I knew who Zab was before this fight in terms of character. But, why do I allow myself to be suckered in by this clown time and time again? Specifically, his faith in God. I’m in no way challenging his faith but his fighting spirit doesn’t reflect this alleged great faith. When things get rough he QUITS! Again, we all know that about Zab but I guess I just wanted to believe. What happened to the warriors in the game? I know we still have some left as witnessed by last weekends f.o.y. candidate. But man, I hated to see Zab DECIDE to stop rather than go out on his shield. Like it was yesterday, I still remember how Eric Harding responded to the ref after being floored in the 2nd Tarver fight. Ref asked him if he was ok to continue. Harding replied, “Man, I’m from Philadelphia!” That’s the kind of competitive spirit I’m looking for. Whether you’re boxing, hooping or tap dancing for that matter. . .if you can’t bring that attitude then why lace them mutherfuckers up? Dante Okc Bread?s Response: Stand up Eric Harding! I remember when he said that. Onto Zab, Dante you guys have to take heed to what I say. I wanted to pick Zab, but I don?t pick with my heart only my brain and my pockets. I take picking fights very serious and I leave no stone unturned when it comes down to a picking a fight. I know you guys value my opinion, so I really put a lot into this. I had so many Judah fans writing me, telling me not to post their comments but that they thought Zab would win, BIG. As much as I like Zab, I kept reminding people I watched him quit against Joshua Clottey. Yes he quit in that fight. When you tell a referee you can?t see, that?s code word for I don ?t want to fight anymore. I really , really like Zab but that?s what went down. I factored that in. I also factored in the Matthysse and Mabuza fights. Zab was getting walked down big time in those fights. Everybody talked about this resurgence but I saw an aging fighter getting walked down. I also saw some ?GIVE? in the Matthysse fight. Then I saw a fighter try to fight a more conservative style. Zab is not Pernell Whitaker. Whitaker is a vicious body puncher, he is very rough on the inside. His jab is also impeccable. ESPN Classics just showed his fight against Rafael Pineda. Whitaker fights conservative once he puts you in your place. Then he relaxes into that pop shot relax, reflex fight. AFTER he has established control. And everythime his opponents try to exert more energy to take control, Whitaker steps it up and puts them in their place, much like Floyd does not. Zab goes about it different and wrong in my opinion. He fights with low output, but he is not outboxing his opponent. He is trying to do 2 things, save energy so he doesn?t burn out, and catch his opponent with a Sunday punch. See my Betting With Bread. It?s tough at the top level to pick the guy that has to land a homerun. All that said, you seem really disappointed you fell for Zab. Well Dante, you?re a smart guy, leave your heart out of it bro.
