IT WAS a glorious day for Philippine boxing last Sunday after three Filipino boxers outfought their respective foes in Los Angeles. Even if temporarily, the country’s spirits was buoyed by the triple victories.
World boxing super feather-weight champion Emmanuel “Pacman” Pacquiao, Filipino-American Brian Viloria and Boholano pugilist Rey “Boom-Boom’ Bautista more than deserve the country’s praise and congratulations for having given their country honor in the boxing arena.
Their triumph should serve as an inspiration to amateur boxers to excel in their chosen field and bring honor to the Philippines through the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games to be held in Manila in November and in the Olympics in 2008 to be held in Beijing, China.
In past international competitions, Filipino boxers have shown their very best so government should focus more on training local pugs into world-class competitors.
