Earlier today inside of the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles, California, Nigerian-born welterweight hopeful Wale ?Lucky Boy? Omotoso could be found preparing for his American debut. Omotoso had a rough life on the streets of Lagos but later relocated to Australia with the help of his former manager, trainer, and promoter Murray Thomson.
Despite a career mark of 18-0 with 16 knockouts, Omotoso must have sensed that his career was stagnant and will now be under the guidance of trainer Freddie Roach. Omotoso will also be making his debut for Las Vegas-based Top Rank Promotions this coming September 10th as he will see some time on the Yuriorkis Gamboa-Daniel Ponce De Leon undercard in Atlantic City.
While Omotoso?s newfound union with Roach will surely garner him some exposure, there are several fight fans from Down Under who were upset with the manner in which he split with Thomson, who took in the fighter and helped mold him into the professional he is today. At the end of the day Omotoso has to do what is best for his career and there is no looking back at this point.
Omotoso is ranked #9 in the IBF, a title currently held by champion Jan Zaveck, and might find his way towards some meaningful fights in 2012 if all goes well.
