Coming from his smashing victory over Felix Murillo last Sunday, WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista will arrive in Cebu today.
Bautista will arrive at 9:30 a.m. from the US and his homecoming will be a lot warmer than when he arrived from his first US fight in March, his manager Antonio Aldeguer said.
After arriving at the Mactan Cebu International Airport, Bautista will meet the local press for lunch at the City Sports Club of Cebu, where the New Generation ALA Boy will talk about his recent victory.
Plans
Aldeguer is also expected to reveal future plans for the 19-year-old Bautista, who is reportedly being considered to fight under the heavyweight championship between Vitali Klitschko and Hasim Rahman on Nov. 12 at the MGM Grand Arena.
However, Aldeguer and promoter Sammy Gello-ani are also eyeing to promote Bautista in Cebu – if they get a sponsor.
Since he left for the US to prepare for his last two fights, Bautista had trained hard under top-tier trainer Freddie Roach, and was rewarded with a third-round knockout of the Colombian Murillo.
President’s greetings
With great determination and heart, the Candijay, Bohol native did it in style and won the crowd. He was among the Filipino boxers whom President Arroyo greeted in a flashed message on national television last Sunday.
Bautista, Fil-Am Brian Viloria and superstar Manny Pacquiao won their respective fights via knockouts. Viloria won the WBC light-flyweight belt over Mexican Eric Ortiz with a first-round kockout, while Pacquiao claimed the WBC International super-featherweight championship over Hector Velasquez of Tijuana, Mexico in a sixth-round TKO.
