If you have been following we have been reporting on the debacle of Judge Hilton Whitaker Jr. for the Williams ? Lara bout in Atlantic City, New Jersey this past weekend. Now let?s take a closer look at the scorecard of Judge Don Givens.
The ABC was setup as a governing body to put little teeth to the sport of boxing and the enactment of the Ali Act.
When doing so the ABC set some regulatory guidelines for judges to follow and commissions to implement, the following are copied from ABC.
1:)Judges should avoid scoring a round even. (Complete concentration and application of the scoring criteria will allow Judges to pick the winner of each round.)
The basic scoring concepts are:
Round ends, no clear winner 10-10 (Rare)
Close round/Winning of the round by effective boxing ? 10-9
One knockdown and a winning of the round ? 10-8
No knockdowns, but a clear dominating winning of the round ? 10-8
Two knockdowns ? 10-7
One knockdown and one point deduction to the same boxer ? 10-8 (minus 1) = 10-7
More than two knockdowns ? 10-6
Two knockdowns and one point deduction ? 10-7 (minus 1) = 10-6
Well Mr. Givens, guess for you even rounds are not so RARE, not only he forget this regulation once he scored both the 3rd round and the 12th round as a draw and Mr. Whitaker as well seemed to think both men won the round.
Mr. Givens as well had a change of heart on his score card and changed the score from 10-9 in favor of Lara to 10-9 in favor of Williams in the second.

One question for Commissioner Aaron Davis of New Jersey, What is going on with your judges, do you think they need a refresher course in judging perhaps some seminars at the ABC.
Mr. Davis has failed to return our calls for comment today.
