LOS ANGELES – Top Rank chief Bob Arum is not taking Floyd Mayweather Junior’s challenge seriously, at least for now.
Mayweather earlier called out pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao for a match.”You’re next,” he said during a press conference promoting his forthcoming match with Victor Ortiz.
Arum, however, is unfazed. “We’re not going to waste time playing games with Mayweather. You can talk the talk, but walk the walk,” he said.
However, Arum did not completely dismiss a possible match with Mayweather.
Pacquiao is set to face Juan Manuel Marquez in November. The Filipino champ has eked out a draw and a decision win over the Mexican fighter in their last 2 fights.
“Manny has his hands with Marquez who seems to know how to fight him,” said Arum. “If Pacquiao gets by Marquez, we’ll see if we can make a Mayweather fight.”
Pacquiao is suing Mayweather for libel after he accused the Filipino champ of steroid use.
