Cintron/Molina- Let?s start here, Carlos Molina came in with the right game plan. That game plan was to overwhelm Cintron with the launching of many punches. Molina did so, by resting his head on Cintrons chest and firing away. Cintron should have used his legs a lot more, Cintron should have used his jab a lot more, Cintron should have also fired off a lot more shots than he did, in short, Cintron could have done a lot more. Not to take anything away from Molinas performance, I feel that the long lay off affected Cintron a lot more than anything else that Molina did to Cintron last night. I mean Molina did not do anything different than what he usually does, it?s just that Cintron just could not pull the trigger. Sitting on the shelf for a long time will do that to a fighter. Kermit the Killer entered the ring, but the ring rust took over the night.
Rios/Antillon- Wow! What a shootout. A quick shootout, but still a shootout, and a very exciting one at that. But come on now, what do you expect, when you pair up 2 Mexicans in the ring to do battle, 9 times out of 10, you are just about guarranteed a war. These are the type of fights that attract new fans to the sport. this is what boxing is all about. Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the art of hitting and not getting hit but this is a contact sport so it is what it is. Mnay can call it, face first dumb style of fighting, but it?s because of these gladiators that the sport of boxing is still very much alive. Just take a good hard look at UFC, last week they put on a show and you could hear the boos storming in from the crowd. And MMA is a sport that is thought to be very brutal and full of action, but in that particular match, the fans were not very pleased with the fight due to lack of action. I said it before and I will say it again, we live in a blood thirsty society that prefers the microwave over the oven. The fans want the action and they want it Now! Now back to Rios/Antillon, this fight started off with dynamite and it ended with an explosion. The first round was straight up fire, the second round was still very much a furnace, and in the third round, Rios ended things and walked Antillon through the gates of hell. So where does Rios go from here? I hope it doesn?t include Barrera, that?s for sure. Other than being able to add the great future hall of fame name of Barrera to your ledger, what?s the point of making this fight happen? Barrera these days is too long in the tooth to be able to stand up to this kind of heat. I found it to be very smart of Arum to throw in Pacquiao?s name into the mix last night, Arum is starting to see what he has in this all action fighting star in Rios so Arum will sex Rios?s mind up with Pacquiao as bait. By doing so, it allows Rios to stay put. What Arum needs to do, is end this cold war with Golden Boy and have Rios face the winner of Guerrero/Maidana. Now that would be doing something right for the sport, that?s the least he can do since Mayweather/Pacquiao seems to be further and further away.
Williams/Lara- Now I don?t know about you, but I felt that Erislandy Lara dominated Paul Williams for most of the fight last night. Lara?s left hand was finding the mark on demand. Williams knows deep down that he lost that fight last night, it can?t be sitting well with him. Williams just can not seem to use his height to his advantage. When Williams fights, Williams fights shorter, Williams uses his hight as a dis advantage. Paul Williams needs to desperately seek the services of Emanuel Steward, Steward is the best at training taller fighters, Steward knows how to get the very best out of his fighters. When do we ever see the Klitschko brothers dip down low to fire a shot? When did we ever see Thomas ?Hitman? Hearns bend down to fire a jab? Lara was robbed last night and it was a complete disgrace. The judges that scored the fight last night should get at least a 90 day suspension.
