DeSoto boxer Errol Spence, Jr, 21, is preparing to head to the U.S. Olympic Trials Sunday – August 6th in Mobile, Alabama. This is a double-elimination tournament that will go a long way toward determining who will represent America in the 2012 Olympics in London, England.
“This is a very important tournament and I’m well-prepared for it,” said Spence.
Spence is fighting at the 152 pound amateur welterweight limit.
The three-time United States Boxing Championship winner is hoping a berth on the Olympic team would lead to a successful career as a paid professional fighter.

A win at Mobile would mean only a top 10 finish would be required at the World Championships September 22 – October 10th in Baku Azerbaijan to qualify for the Olympic team.
In 2008, another Dallas boxer, Luis Yanez, made the Olympic team and made it to the second round in Beijing, China.
Spence is known as “E.J.” to his friends. He trains at the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym in Dallas and is trained by former professional Derrick James and assisted by his father, Errol Spence, Sr.
